"I came to the Mission on my own, and I'm so glad I did…I've been able to get away from the temptations that have really hurt me. I have a better perspective on my life and what God wants for me." - Joe, Haven of Rest resident

God has blessed Haven of Rest with thousands of volunteers through the years. Each volunteer comes with their own gifts and talents and our Volunteer Department does their best to match every volunteer to an area of the Mission where they will be able to serve best and have fun. For one of our young volunteers, Nathan, this was in the Nurture Center at Harvest Home.

When Nathan has breaks from school, in the summer for example, he spends his time volunteering with Haven of Rest’s Child Advocate. “He assists in providing childcare, supervising on field trips, sanitizing and cleaning the play room, and playing games with the children who are living in our shelter,” says Child Advocate, Rachel Shoff.

In honor of his hard work and dedication to his volunteer work at Haven of Rest, Nathan was named Volunteer of the Year in his age bracket at the 2016 Global Youth Service Day Awards last week. At the ceremony he was described as having “a passion for service” and being “reliable, willing and kind.” In the past year Nathan has dedicated over 93 hours to his volunteer work at Haven of Rest.

The Mission extends its sincerest congratulations and thanks to Nathan for his servant’s heart and faithful volunteer work. Please pray for blessings on Nathan and all of our wonderful volunteers as they continue their work with Haven of Rest.
