"I came to the Mission on my own, and I'm so glad I did…I've been able to get away from the temptations that have really hurt me. I have a better perspective on my life and what God wants for me." - Joe, Haven of Rest resident

  • Move No More…by Hannah Rodgers

Many of the people who come to Haven of Rest are here for food, shelter, and other vital services. Their lives have played out in a way that has left them with few alternatives. Often they have to move around a lot; whether that means living from couch to couch in the homes of friends and family, shelter to shelter, or park bench to park bench. They often do not have the comfort of coming home when the day is done and settling down for the night in a place of their own.

It can be increasingly difficult for them to plan ahead or even think about life goals and aspirations. The constant uncertainty of needing a safe place to sleep weighs on their minds. They often feel that God has forgotten about them. It is our privilege at Haven of Rest to welcome them into a safe space and provide them with a place where they can not only get a good night’s rest, but also get their lives back on track. We also share the good news that God has a plan for their lives, and He has made a place for them, just as He had plans for His followers in 2 Samuel 7:10. “Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore, as previously.”

He has a plan for us during our time here on Earth and has prepared a heavenly place for us when He calls us home. What a fantastic reminder from our gracious Lord! Please pray that Haven of Rest will continue to be a place for men, women and children who are homeless and hurting in our community to find rest.
