• Thanks! …by Katrina Henry

There are days when you get a word of “Thanks” and you know that you are in the right place at the right time of your life.  During the holiday season I experienced several days like that.

Christmas time can be difficult for families who are going through personal and financial challenges. It can bring up past memories or be a reminder of current situations. It’s amazing how opportunities arises to pray with someone. Here are two of many stories that demonstrates how God used me during the holiday season.

A young lady came to sign up for Christmas Help. As we began to talk, I could see that she wanted to know much more about Jesus. Curiously, she asked questions about my faith and why I believed. I answered all her questions as best I could, but because she was asking so many question,s I asked if I could pray with her. Before she left we prayed again, this time we prayed the prayer of salvation.

As families were coming to receive their gifts, I opened the door for a mother with tears flowing. As she hugged me I could feel her trembling. I asked what was wrong and she began to talk about how this was her first Christmas without her son who had been killed earlier in the year. This would be her and her families first Christmas without him. I was so overwhelmed all I could do was allow her to cry as I hugged her back. When I felt she was ready I slipped my hands into hers and began to pray for God’s peace for each of them.

After the New Year, I also received notes from some of the grateful moms:

    Ms. Katrina,

I just wanted to say thank you again for helping me this Christmas. The boys had a great day and I’m so blessed by you and the Haven. You are a true soldier for Christ. May God continue to bless you.

    Ms. Katrina,

Wishing you a joyous Christmas and peace throughout the New Year. You are a god send. Thank you, Justin will love the toys that I was able to get for him at the Mission.

    God Bless You

The truth is, I have no idea why God has given me the opportunity to serve here. I’ve been ‘Called’ to work for Him. It’s beyond comprehension. But I certainly am going to take advantage of the opportunities He has set before me. I am blessed, better than blessed!
