WAYS TO GIVE
But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.
Chronicles 29:14
YOUR ABILITY TO GIVE MAY BE GREATER THAN YOU THINK
Do you know there are many ways of giving to Haven of Rest Ministries and that your giving potential may be far greater than you realize?
Briefly outlined here are some of the ways you can give a financial gift to Haven of Rest. You may want to investigate each of these opportunities and take advantage of those that may be especially beneficial to you from the standpoint of tax savings.
Haven of Rest will be happy to have a stewardship representative meet with you to discuss in more detail the giving options that are open to you. There is absolutely no obligation on your part.
GIFT OF CASH
If you itemize on your tax return, cash gifts are generally deductible in amounts up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income. Deduction amounts exceeding this limit can be carried forward for up to five additional years. Cash gifts can be given by check or by credit card (MASTERCARD, VISA, DISCOVER, and AMEX). Electronic Fund Transfer service is also available.
CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY
Through a charitable gift annuity, you can experience the joy of giving to God’s work and at the same time be assured of lifetime income. You enter into an agreement whereby you agree to transfer cash or other assets, such as securities, to Haven of Rest in exchange for guaranteed regular payments. The amount transferred is always greater than the present value of the annuity agreement, thus making the transfer part gift and part purchase of the annuity. The size of payments is determined by the age of the donor at the time the annuity is funded.
Charitable gift annuities are available only for gifts starting at $5000 for persons 60 years of age or over.
Deferred charitable gift annuities are available for use by donors under age 60 as part of their retirement planning program.
GIFT OF STOCK
Stock that you have owned for at least a year that has increased in value can be a particularly tax-wise gift to Haven of Rest. If you sell the stock, you will be responsible for paying capital gains tax on its increased value. But giving it to Haven of Rest allows you to avoid paying the capital gains on its appreciation and allows you to take a charitable deduction for the stock’s full value.
GIFT OF REAL ESTATE
Giving a gift of real estate can also be a tax-wise move. Property such as a residence, farm or vacant lot may have appreciated so much in value over the years that selling it would result in a significant capital gains tax. By making a gift of the property to Haven of Rest, you may avoid the capital gains and receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the property.
GIFT OF LIFE INSURANCE
Life insurance provides an ideal means by which you can give a significant charitable gift to Haven of Rest without depriving your family or depleting your estate. An insurance policy is taken out on your life with Haven of Rest as the owner and beneficiary. You make annual or semi-annual contributions to cover the cost of its premiums.
Your premium contributions will ultimately provide a far larger gift than you might otherwise ever be able to give, and that gift remains intact after you reach the point where premium payments may no longer be required. Since the premium contributions are recognized as a charitable gift you will enjoy certain tax savings.
If you have a paid-up life insurance policy that you no longer need, you can realize an immediate and significant tax savings by donating the policy to Haven of Rest.
