EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

The Education Department’s Innovative Learning Center offers a seven-phase, computer-enhanced curriculum that places the emphasis on learning rather than teaching. Students are able to assume responsibility for their own education and to progress at their own pace.
All those enrolled in Haven of Rest’s residential rehabilitation programs for men and women are required to spend 1 1/2 hrs. per day, four days per week, in the Learning Center with the goal that they will achieve the following goals:
OBJECTIVES:
• Reading at eight-grade level (two levels above the national norm)
• Writing at eight-grade level
• Mastering math skills through pre-algebra level
• Obtaining a high skills or general education diploma (GED)
• Mastering MS DOS computer operations
• Becoming employable
As men and women near the end of the resident rehabilitation process, the Career Development Department provides the help they need to find a job on their own and keep a job once they obtain it. Residents also receive assistance in developing a long-range plan for their career advancement.
