Golf Charities Foundation grant provides new van for Haven of Rest
A $22,000 grant from Northern Ohio Golf Charities Foundations has enabled Haven of Rest to purchase a much-needed new van.
“We’re very grateful for the Foundation’s generosity,” says Rev. Ben Walker, Haven of Rest’s executive director. “The new van will be a tremendous help to us in transporting over 100 client men and 23 resident men to medical, psychiatric, optical and dental appointments, and outpatient drug treatments.
Twins Receive 2008 Harold K. Stubbs Award
Yvonne Brake, Director of Development, and twin sister Yvette McMillian, Director of the Women’s Division, at Haven of Rest were two of the recipients of the 2008 Harold K. Stubbs Humanitarian Award. The sisters were recognized for their work in the field of social service.Yvonne has worked in the area of development for over 18 years. She is also founder and executive director of Because He Cares, and outreach ministry that has provides evangelistic, education, and substance abuse/violence prevention programs to the urban community for 28 years.
Yvette oversees the daily operations of Harvest Home shelter for homeless women and children and serves on the board of Because He Cares. She is also a certified trainer in “Framework for Understanding Poverty” and “ Bridges Out of Poverty” developed by Dr. Ruby Payne.
The sisters are graduates of Case Western Reserve University’s Masters program in nonprofit organizations, have served on numerous committees and boards, and have authored learning modules entitled “Teaching Children to Give.”
